Four Orange & Aqua Surfboards
An original oil pastel painting by Lori Brunner from Love Letter to La Jolla, a series inspired by the life, light and visual language of Southern California.
Four abstracted surfboard forms create a bold rhythm across the composition, pairing vibrant orange with cool aqua in a palette that quietly evokes sun, water and the saturated colors of coastal life.
The repetition gives the work an almost architectural quality. Familiar shapes become pattern and form, allowing the painting to move beyond its surf-inspired subject and become an exploration of color, scale and rhythm.
There is an energy to this piece that feels distinctly Southern Californian—optimistic, relaxed and sun-drenched—yet the simplified forms and unexpected color combination keep it decidedly contemporary.
Like the larger Love Letter to La Jolla collection, the painting draws from the visual memories of a place rather than depicting it literally. Surfboards become part of that vocabulary: familiar objects transformed through abstraction into something graphic, expressive and personal.
At 47 × 35 inches, the work has a substantial presence. Presented in a solid maple frame, the natural wood provides a quiet architectural counterpoint to the saturated orange and aqua of the painting.
